What is the Gospel?

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the good news that God became man in the person of Jesus Christ. God did this to pay the price for man’s sinful nature. The Bible states in Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Because God created everything, He rightfully assumes the role of our supreme authority. God originally created mankind to have perfect union with his Creator, but man broke the one rule God had made.

Due to this rebellion, God and mankind’s union has been broken. Every individual is separate from God regardless of job, family, race, or any good works. The Bible says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23). But the story does not end there, God chose to provide a way for mankind to enter back into a relationship with God. God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ.

The Bible says in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Christ was sent to live a perfect life and die in the place of mankind upon a cross. The Bible says in Romans 5:8, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Christ died a sinner’s death, but He did not stay dead. Three days after Christ’s death, He miraculously rose from the dead and conquered sin and death for those who follow Him.

Jesus Christ paid the price for man’s sinful nature and by faith and repentance, one can have a personal relationship with God. The Bible says in Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” The gift of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is not based on church attendance, personal giving, or any good works. It is simply a gift of God’s goodness.
